British Columbia and Back Again

BC Ferries (Gulf Islands, British Columbia, Canada)

John and I hopped on the 5 p.m. ferry from Schwartz Bay (British Columbia, Canada) to Saltspring Island last Thursday evening.

Our destination for the night was The Harbor House Inn where we met twenty three years ago. (A love story that I won't go into right now.)

Ganges Harbour, Saltspring Island, British Columbia
We spent the evening walking around the harbor in Ganges (Ganges Harbour) and recalling our meeting and the year that we spent together on the island.

After a very short stay on Saltspring, we headed for Parksville where we would gather with family to attend John's brother Gary's memorial service.

As always, it was good to be around family even though the occasion was sad and sobering.

Sharon Huntley
We loved our time with Sharon, Gary's wife at their home in French Creek...
...and with Taylor, Gary and Sharon's German Sheppard.

We loved that we could still sense Gary's presence around town as he landscaped many larger sites throughout the area over the years.

John and I enjoyed morning walks on the Parksville Qualicum Beach.

After three and a half days in Parksville area, we drove down Vancouver Island to Victoria where we would catch our flight back to California.

In Victoria, we reminisced about former times, family and talked about what might be to come.

As we strolled around the streets of Victoria, we were reminded how much we both love the sweet city.

Victoria Harbour (Victoria, British Columbia)
As night fell over Victoria Harbour Monday, we gave thanks for the loving family members that remain and made a toast to Gary's memory.

We're now back home in foggy Moss Landing, happily reunited with our doggie girl Gingee attempting to reconnect to our lives here.

It's beautiful isn't it? I'm glad you got some time together to reminisce and to travel back in time to happy memories. The Great Dane and I are off to Saltspring Island on Friday for an overnight mini-holiday. It's one of my favorite places!

Even though it is a sad time, your tour of Victoria and the surrounding area was great. The picture of you & John also is really nice. Be safe out there. Sam & Donna..
